Last night, the Twins won their third consecutive game, and Fransisco Liriano won his second straight start. With the win against the Kansas City Royals, the Minnesota Twins took a half game lead over the Chicago White Sox.
Delmon Young hit a two-run home run in the second inning, which also scored Jason Kubel. It was Delmon Young’s fifth home run of the season. Jason Kubel also had a triple in the fourth inning. Delmon Young, Brian Buscher, Denard Span, and Justin Morneau all had RBIs in the game. Carlos Gomez had a stolen base.
Fransisco Liriano pitched five and two-thirds of an inning, with five strikeouts. He gave up all three runs on six hits. Boof Bonser and Dennys Reyes came in relief for Liriano, and pitched three and a third of an inning. They combined to give up no runs on two hits. They also combined for four strikeouts.
Today the Minnesota Twins will send Scott Baker (7-3) to the mound against Gil Meche (10-9), of the Kansas City Royals. The Twins will be looking for a three game sweep of the Royals.
